IMPHAL: Congress MLA Govindas Konthoujam has expressed strong displeasure over the increasing trend of unfair business in some private schools by offering cash in terms of lakhs to the toppers of HSLC exam so that the toppers are admitted in their schools.
The Legislator divulged his strong displeasure while speaking as chief guest at the felicitation of the successful students held at Thinungei Mayai leikai Ibudhou Loyalakpa community hall.
Govindas said that the unfair trend of luring exam toppers by offering some lakhs is very unfortunate. The unfair business of those private schools to lure exam toppers in Class X and class XII by offering money will not help improve the quality education and will rather lead the meritorious students to an unfair world. The private schools remain focusing on earning popularity or fame of their schools instead of producing good students. The cut throat competition among the private schools to lure topper students by offering huge money so that the students are admitted in their schools will lead the society to the wrong path, he said.
The MLA said that both parents and teachers have equal responsibility to provide proper education and guidance to the students.
The award presentation ceremony was organized by Star Guardian Association Thinungei. Successful students in Class 10, class 12 examinations and players who bagged medals in the national and international level championships were presented with Cash prizes, certificates along with tree saplings.
DFO Bishnupur Dr Rebika Soibam who attended the function said that students, apart from their studies, should know social responsibility and environment responsibility to bring a change in society. She urged the students to respect their teachers.
