The Congress Party is geared-up to reinvigorate itself and return to power after the 2024 Lok Sabha Election

Imphal:

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has formed a “Political Affairs Committee ” comprising 16 Congress leaders during the 2-day Nav Sankalp Meeting of Chitan Shivir that began on Wednesday as part of the party’s preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election.

Addressing the media at Congress Bhawan on Thursday, MPCC senior spokesperson Ningombam Bhupenda Meitei said that as a part of the initiative taken up by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, the party conducted the two-day Nav Sankalp Meeting from Wednesday onwards. In line with the decision taken by AICC during Udaipur Nav Sankalp held on May 13 and May 15, MPCC also formed a “Political Affairs Committee” as a resolution of a two days meeting, the leader informed.

Bhupendra informed that some of the Congress leaders to lead the committee are MPCC president K Meghachandra; CLP leader O Ibobi Singh, a regular member of the Congress Working Committee, AICC Gaikhangam, deputy CLP leaders K Ranjit Singh and others.

He further informed that various other agendas were resolved during a brainstorming session that was held as preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, viz. finalization of jurisdiction and constitution of Mandal Congress Committees, to conduct a 75 Km long padayatra starting from August 9, 2022, to mark the celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence by every District Congress Committee (DCC), plan to fill up the vacant Mandal, Block, district and state-level positions in the next 90 to 180 days by November 15, agitation program on price rise, unemployment, and other issues.

Commenting about Enforcement Directorate (ED) issuing summons against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with a money laundering case, Bhupenda said that the Congress party is geared up to reinvigorate itself and return to power after the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. Seeing all these activities of the Congress, fear psychosis is being developed within the BJP government, the spokesperson said, alleging that as a reaction to it, the Enforcement Directorate issued summons to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

“Sending summons to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi is a complete political vendetta,” he alleged.

Manipur BJP chief spokesperson Ch Bijoy expelled from the party for six years

Manipur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief spokesperson Chongtham Bijoy who is a 27-year-old member was expelled from the party for six years on Friday for alleged disciplinary breach.
Bijoy reacted to his expulsion by alleging that the state BJP is like a wolf in sheep’s clothing and termed its members as all ‘nakali BJP’ (fake BJP) who only know how to get benefits behind the party.

An order issued by state BJP president A Sharda Devi mentioned that Bijoy was expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years with immediate effect for violation of the party’s rules and regulations under Article XXV, breach of discipline clause (b) and (d).

Bijoy told the media at his residence located at Lamphel that the reason for his expulsion as mentioned in the order was completely false and charged that he was expelled under vested interests.

Under the party’s constitution, it is mentioned that if a primary member is to be expelled, then certain procedures are to be followed. At first, an explanation call is to be made from the party against the said member; it should be discussed by the state disciplinary action committee and the findings are to be sent at the central disciplinary action committee, he said. By skipping all these procedures, the order was issued and there could be some conspiracy behind this from the big powers of BJP, he added.

He said that he recently announced that he will not support the BJP candidate of Uripok assembly constituency and will either cast his vote for NOTA or will not cast at all.

“I am very happy that I served BJP selflessly for the past 27 years,” Bijoy said.

Pointing out that the real BJP stands against black money, corruption and dynastic rule etc., he questioned whether the state BJP stands for the same.

“I am not against BJP but I am against the state BJP which are all made of fakes, and the original BJP has been suppressed by the ‘power mongers’ of the state BJP,” Bijoy alleged.

When he was a BJP ticket aspirant from Uripok assembly constituency, he had expressed in a public meeting that if he happened to be elected as representative with the support from the people, then he would first put all the individuals involved in corruption irrespective of political parties including BJP behind bars.

He alleged that regarding the denial of BJP ticket to him, he was informed that he is not rich and has less number of followers. “If that is the case, then why the BJP ticket was not given to BJP aspiring candidate of Keishamthong assembly constituency Nishikant Sapam who has money and many followers,” he said.

At a recent function, chief minister N Biren had expressed that the tickets were given to those who came to save the BJP party and not to those who tried to disintegrate the party, he added.

He stressed that in the last 27 years of his membership in BJP, he never tried to create any issues that may affect the government or the party.

State BJP has ‘double value’ and for Uripok assembly he will be supporting its JD-U candidate, he said.  “However, it does not mean that I will be joining the JD-U. Before joining any party, I will lodge a case against the state BJP,” he added.

He also challenged chief minister N Biren Singh on finding out whether his candidate or the JD-U candidate will get more votes. Who would receive the BJP ticket was already predetermined years ago, and the state BJP used the aspiring candidates to get their political mileage, alleged Bijoy.

JD-U candidate Kh Suresh, a BJP aspirant who was denied ticket, said that he will surely win the election with support from politicians like Ch Bijoy.
He appealed to the people to analyse all the candidates of the assembly constituency before casting their votes in order to elect the right candidate.

MPCC DEMANDS JUDICIAL PROBE ON SOCIAL ACTIVIST ATHUAN ABONMEI KILLING

Imphal: 23/9/2021

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today demanded the institution of Judicial Inquiry on by not less than a sitting High Court Judge, within 24 hours to the assassination of social activist Athuan Abonmei who was abducted in broad daylight amidst security arrangement from Pologround of Tamenglong district headquarter and later found killed in the evening around 30 km from the spot.

Late Athuan Abonmei, a fearless outspoken activist and a critic of NSCN-IM was waiting for Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his cabinet colleague to attend the “Go-To-Hill 2.0” mission when he was abducted by some gunmen suspected to be cadres of the NSCN-IM. Working President of the MPCC I. Hemochandra while condemning such killing asked the government where are the law and order. He said that a civilian was abducted by gunmen from a place where the chief minister of Manipur was attending a state function. When a civilian can be abducted from a well-guarded place, then where is the security of the general public. Hemochandra not only question the security of the general public but asked the security of the Chief Minister himself as it happened from the place where he has been attending. “When gunmen can enter and abducted civilian from the place where the Chief Minister is attending then it compromises the security of the Chief Minister Himself too”, former Minister Hemochandra said adding that there needs an immediate independent judicial inquiry into the incident. He said this as the incident itself is a clear example of security lapses that needed to be investigated at the earliest.

Another working President of MPCC K Meghachandra, who is also the Spokesperson of the MPCC said that police officer and other security forces present at the ground should take sole responsibility for the killing of Athuan Abonmei. Both the working president said that the assassination of Athuan Abonmai, the voice of the unity and integrity of Manipur, must be taken with utmost seriousness as the martyrdom of Athuan Abonmai can’t go into insignificant history. Meghachandra added that the Congress party salutes the fearless voice of Athuan Abonmai. His loss is the historic loss for the entire Manipur. He said Congress demands that DM and SP of the district concerned must be sacked within 24 hours, and both should be held responsible for the loss of Abonmai’s life. The Congress also demanded that the DGP of Manipur must explain what has led to the failure of non-responsiveness to the FIR lodged by Abonmai’s son at Lamphel Police Station, why and how the police and district administration could not prevent the abduction of Abonmai in a broad daylight from a government event in full public glare.

The MPCC considers that the broad-daylight assassination of Abonmai is a ground reflection of the total failure of the Home Department, CID, Crime Branch, and State Intelligence Bureau in the state, Working president of MPCC I Hemochandra said. He added that the incident of such brutality and inhumanity has never ever taken place in history to silence a democratic and fearless voice that always stood for the uncompromising unity and integrity of Manipur. The MPCC spokespersons further said that bullets can’t silence the true sons and daughters of Manipur. Many Abonmais will be born to follow the philosophy and ideology of martyred Athuan Abonmai. Congress said that the entire state government of Manipur has completely failed to protect the precious life of our true son of Manipur and our beloved brother, Athuan Abonmai.

Modi govt completes 100 days in office, it is clear that its rule has been disastrous for the people of India; full of lies, failed programme, jumlas and economic disaster

As Modi govt completes 100 days in office, it is clear that its rule has been disastrous for the people of India; full of lies, failed programmers, Jumlas and economic disaster. 100DaysNoVikas

Every section of society is feeling cheated and is under deep distress. GDP is at a six year low, unemployment is at a 45 year high, bank frauds are spiraling, farm sector is in crisis, the RTI Act has been diluted, every democratic institution is under attack, hate crimes have become the norm, people of J&K are under a lockdown since a month now… and you can’t even question the govt because then you are called anti-national.

The lopsided economic policies of this govt have completely crushed the Indian economy. FM Nirmala Sitharaman has recently overturned 90% of decisions announced in the Union Budget, which the Congress party since day one called uninspiring while Modi govt was hailing as historic.

To hide its failures on all fronts, Govt is doing what it does the best, “headline management” and vendetta politics against the Congress leaders like Shri P. Chidambaram & DK Shivakumar.

Congress Party has been urging the govt to shun its vendetta politics and has offered to help to drive the country out of this Modi Made Disaster but Govt has refused to take the help.

Sonia Gandhi Back As Congress President For Now

Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI:  Sonia Gandhi will return as Congress president for now, two years after she handed the top job to her son Rahul Gandhi, the party’s top decision-making body, the Working Committee, decided today after a 12-hour meeting. Pitching it as a stop-gap measure, the party said it will pick a new president when its plenary session is held later this year. Rahul Gandhi had quit the party’s top post in May after its disastrous performance in the Lok Sabha election and subsequently refused the party’s requests to withdraw his resignation. This morning, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had excused themselves from group meetings held to decide on a new chief, saying they cannot be part of the selection process. Despite Rahul Gandhi’s insistence, the party failed to come up with a non-Gandhi alternative.

  1. The Congress Working Committee said all those present in the meeting wanted Rahul Gandhi to continue as the party chief. However, since he refused, Sonia Gandhi was requested to take over as interim president. It also passed a resolution, thanking Rahul Gandhi for his service.
  2. The Congress’s state units and the legislature parties took part in the meet that ended around 11 pm. There was suspense over whether the party will elect its new leader or go by nomination, as it happened traditionally.
  3. Rahul Gandhi was said to be in favour of a broad consultation before zeroing in on a candidate, which led to discussions held by five committees representing the east, north-east, south, west and north zones.
  4. The party’s veteran leader Mukul Wasnik – known to be close to Sonia Gandhi – was earlier said to be in the race for the job. The other contender was Mallikarjun Kharge, who was the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
  5. Sonia Gandhi was party president for 19 years and during this period, the Congress headed two back-to-back governments at the centre. Last month, when asked if she was open to taking over as temporary party chief, Sonia Gandhi was non-committal. Battling health problems, she had significantly reduced her public engagements and she has hardly campaigned during recent elections.
  6. Her return as interim chief comes ahead of a string of state elections later this year. There has been criticism that the party’s inability to sort out the leadership issue has drawn attention away from these key elections – the first since the Lok Sabha elections. It has also upset the leaders and workers and an exodus is likely if the matter was not sorted, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor has warned.
  7. The Congress had been decimated in the Lok Sabha elections, winning only 52 seats – a marginal increase over its score of 44 in the 2014 election. Accentuating the defeat, Rahul Gandhi lost his traditional family turf Amethi to the BJP’s Smriti Irani.
  8. Insisting that “accountability” must be maintained, Rahul Gandhi announced his decision to step down  at a closed-door meeting of the Working Committee on May 25. He also ruled out his mother Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s taking over the top post, underscoring that the Congress must look for a non-Gandhi leader.
  9. For most of its 134-year history, the Congress always had the Gandhis at the helm, except for several years in the 90s after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. But the party did not do well under Sitaram Kesri and several leaders convinced Sonia Gandhi to lead it.
  10. After being voted out of power in 2014, the Congress has struggled to win elections or even give the impression that it can be the leading opposition bloc against the might of the BJP led by Prime Minister Modi.

“Those who criticise Congress rule for 55 years are ignoring where India was at independence and how far we have come. Yes, others also contributed, but the foundations of modern India were laid by our founders who firmly believed in a planned economy, as opposed to today, when the Planning Commission has been disbanded,” said Pranab Mukherjee.

Several leaders of the Congress have resigned from their posts to give Rahul Gandhi a free hand to choose a new team

Several leaders of the Congress have resigned from their posts to give Rahul Gandhi a free hand to choose a new team in the wake of the Lok Sabha election defeat although he is adamant on giving up the presidency.

Hours after Vivek Tankha quit as the party’s Chairman for Law and RTI cell, many others from Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana too gave up their posts.

Tankha resigned on Thursday night saying the Congress cannot afford a stalemate for too long and urged Gandhi to revive the Congress as “a fighting force”.

In a series of tweets on Friday, Tankha said: “We all should submit our resignations from party positions and give Rahulji a free hand to choose his team… Party cannot afford a stalemate for too long.”

He added: “Rahulji, please make drastic changes to revive the party as a fighting force. You have the commitment and determination. Just cobble a good, acceptable and influential nation-wide team.”

On Friday afternoon, Rajesh Lilothia, who was also a party candidate from North West Delhi, resigned as the Delhi Congress Working President.

Besides Tankha and Lilothia, Haryana Women Congress chief Sumitra Chouhan, General Secretary Netta P. Sangma of Meghalaya, Secretary Virender Rathore, Chhattisgarh Secretary Anil Chaudhary, Madhya Pradesh Secretary Sudhir Chaudhary and Haryana Secretary Satyavir Yadav also gave up their posts.

The Congress this week dissolved all district committees of its Uttar Pradesh unit and formed a three-member disciplinary committee to look into acts of gross indiscipline and anti-party activities during the Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress suffered a major defeat in the elections, winning just 52 seats. Gandhi himself was defeated in Amethi in Uttar Pradesh although he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Wayanad in Kerala

Gandhi announced his decision to quit as Congress President after the election results but the Congress Working Committee (CWC) wants him to continue.

On Thursday too, Gandhi made it clear to General Secretary K.C. Venugopal that he was determined to give up the presidency.

At the same time, Gandhi has said that he will chair crucial meetings until a new party chief was found.

Gandhi has reportedly told some leaders in private that he was disgusted with those who cling on to their posts despite the election rout.

According to party sources, a meeting of CWC will be called to decide on a new party chief.

Ahead of the meeting, more resignations are likely in the country’s oldest political party.

“I am extremely saddened to hear the news of the sudden demise of Shri Thangjam Debendra, of Haokha, Advisor of Wangkhem BCC, today. I was deeply shocked to hear the unexpected news from MLA Shri Meghachandra Keisham of Wangkhem AC” – N.Bupenda Meitei, Spokesperson,MPCC

Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, Spokesperson,MPCC expressed deep sorrow on the demised of Shri Thangjam Debendra. In his Facebook post, he wrotes as

“I am extremely saddened to hear the news of the demise of Oja Thangjam Debendra, of Haokha, a former school teacher and advisor of Wangkhem Block Congress Committee, on a sudden stroke today. I was deeply shocked to hear the unexpected news from MLA Shri Meghachandra Keisham of Wangkhem Assembly Constituency of Thoubal District of Manipur.

Oja Deben was a good debator and college students’ leader, and he was the contemporary, during college days, of Moirang MLA Shri Sharat Chandra Pukhrem. He shared with me the incidents and journey of his days as students’ leaders with MLA P. Sharatchandra in their colleges’ trip to Jammu & Kashmir from Manipur.

It is a personal loss of mine. A very pro-active Congress ideologue who is also an exemplary orator with facts and figures, Oja Deben, in my last conversation with him at the official residence of the MLA, told me to read ‘Indira’ by Katherine Frank.

I have no words left to express this kind of sadness. Some weeks ago, he, despite heavy rain, visited my ancestral residence to discuss with me on crucial issues. Today, despite being a man in good health, he, all of a sudden, has left all of us.

What is more shocking is that tomorrow is the day of remembering the former President of Wangkhem Block Congress Committee Md. Mubarak Ali ji at his residence, where I was expecting Oja Deben to be present. Unfortunately and very sadly, I will miss both Oja Deben and Md. Mubarak Ali ji so dearly.”

Ramesh and met Congress President in the meeting, He was very concerned about the issues of North East India,s youth problems, joblessness, etc. It was our first meeting, he treated us as a close friend not like a worker. He showed his simplicity, courage to fight for the truth . No leader like him is seen so far in my life. Now India needs his abilities to fight for the young India who has already injected hatred by few orthodox peoples. It is proper time unite to save our Constitution .

“Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his address to the CWC offered his resignation as the party president. The CWC unanimously and with one voice rejected the same and requested the Congress President for his leadership and guidance in these challenging times,”

#IStandWithRahulGandhi

A crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday unanimously rejected Rahul Gandhi’s offer to resign as party president after the Lok Sabha poll debacle and authorised him to overhaul and restructure the party at all levels.

The meeting deliberated on the reasons behind the Congress’s defeat in the elections for four long hours with various leaders urging Mr. Gandhi to continue to provide leadership to the party.

“Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his address to the CWC offered his resignation as the party president. The CWC unanimously and with one voice rejected the same and requested the Congress President for his leadership and guidance in these challenging times,” said the resolution passed by CWC.

The CWC “unanimously” called upon the Rahul Gandhi to lead the party in its ideological battle and to champion the cause of India’s youth, the farmers, the SC, ST, OBCs, the minorities, the poor and the deprived sections, it said.

Top Congress leaders from across the country Saturday got together to review the Lok Sabha poll drubbing, as the party’s highest decision-making body met here.

The CWC meeting, chaired by Mr. Gandhi, was attended by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, chief ministers of party-ruled states and other top leaders.
